Fellowship of the Earth Fair Garden 2000

This summer, FOTE decided to enter a garden landscape in our local County fair. There is many different classifications in the Floriculture exhibit entrys. Ours was under the Amateur Division which was open to any non-profits, clubs, school groups, churches and organizations. In this Division was a choice of two themes; "Millennium Magic" and "All American Family Fun". Our choice was pretty obvious. Our plot is a 10X20 foot area fenced on three sides. All entrants were provided humus, bark, sand, and sod for free, the rest was up to us. While we were told local nurseries and garden supply stores would donate plants to us, none of them did. And yes, we did ask and were turned down or told we could buy the plants and if they were still in good condition return them and get our money back. Most of the plant material and "special FX" were purchased and donated by our Director, Sandy. Other members and family of members loaned us some of the great garden accessories you will see in these picutres.

We wanted to incorporate the elements and some of the more subtle magical symbols and entities such as the different fairies for each element. Along with the fairies we had lots of sparkely things like mylar wands and lots of glitter. Mushrooms and windchimes and our central focus of the Victorian Gazing Ball to create a reflection of the whole garden. We added a poem to tie it all together for those who still couldn't quite get the "Millennium Magic" theme.

"Millennium Magic is all around,
It's in the sky and on the ground,
From the mountains to the sea,
The Earth's magic is for you and me!"

We got a BLUE RIBBON!! 1st Place!! So it was all worth it. We just got the pictures in, so here are some highlights from our garden. We are very excited and happy to be blessed with such a great team of people who pulled it all together.
